# Western Odisha Grounded: No Mumbai, Hyderabad Flights in Jharsuguda Airport’s New Winter Schedule Despite Surging Demand

**JHARSUGUDA:** Air passengers in Western Odisha have faced a severe setback as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) released its winter schedule, completely omitting the heavily demanded direct flights to **[Mumbai](https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fm%2F04vmp) and [Hyderabad](https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fm%2F09c6w)** from Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) Airport in Jharsuguda.

Despite repeated demands and a strong proposal submitted by the Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) during its critical October 12 meeting—chaired by Bargarh MP Pradeep Purohit and Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathi—the Union Civil Aviation Ministry and major airlines have ignored the region's connectivity needs. The AAC had pushed to revive the suspended Mumbai and Hyderabad routes, add a morning flight to Delhi, and introduce new sectors like Chennai, Jaipur, and Visakhapatnam.

The decision has sparked widespread public discontent across Western Odisha. Local residents, businesses, and the intelligentsia argue that Mumbai and Hyderabad connectivity is indispensable for the region's expanding economic and industrial infrastructure, as well as for students and patients seeking advanced medical treatment.

Current Approved Winter Schedule

The newly approved schedule keeps operations highly restricted, retaining only the existing routes operated by IndiGo and Star Air:

- **[Kolkata](https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fm%2F0cvw9) (IndiGo - 6E 7405/7406):** Departs [Kolkata](https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fm%2F0cvw9) at 07:40 AM, arrives in Jharsuguda at 09:10 AM; departs Jharsuguda at 09:30 AM, lands in [Kolkata](https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fm%2F0cvw9) at 10:55 AM (Daily).

- **[Bengaluru](https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fm%2F0bf6my) (IndiGo - 6E 6059/128):** Departs Bengaluru at 01:15 PM, arrives in Jharsuguda at 03:30 PM; departs Jharsuguda at 04:00 PM, returns to Bengaluru at 06:15 PM (Daily).

- **[Delhi](https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fm%2F09f07) (IndiGo - 6E 690/466):** Departs [Delhi](https://www.google.com/search?kgmid=%2Fm%2F09f07) at 03:35 PM, arrives in Jharsuguda at 05:15 PM; departs Jharsuguda at 06:05 PM, arrives in Delhi at 08:00 PM (Daily).

- **Bhubaneswar (Star Air - S5 606):** Departs Bhubaneswar at 04:25 PM on Fridays and Sundays; arrives in Jharsuguda at 05:25 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Despite proven passenger demand and commercial viability, the civil aviation authorities have maintained a staggered policy. Local leaders warn that if the DGCA and airlines do not immediately revise the schedule to announce additional flights, public protests in Western Odisha are likely to intensify.
