# Dharmendra Pradhan Accuses Naveen Patnaik of Misleading Public Over Mining Amendments, Cites 2020 Letters

**BHUBANESWAR** — Former union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and senior BJP leaders have strongly defended the recent mining amendments, stating that the new regulations establish a **transparent national framework** and **cap excessive multi-level taxes** that previously threatened to shut down mining operations.

Speaking on the matter, Pradhan sharply criticized former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, accusing him of **misleading the public**. To support his claims, the Union Minister cited official letters written by the previous BJD-led Odisha government in 2020. According to Pradhan, those documents allegedly requested pricing modifications that directly **favoured a private industrial house** at the expense of state revenues. BJP leadership emphasized that the current legislative updates are designed to safeguard state exchequers while ensuring long-term sustainability and transparency across the mining sector.
