# Festive Security, Arms Smuggling, and Orangutan Probe: Odisha DGP Outlines Mega Policing Blueprint

Odisha- **Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Vinaytosh Mishra** on Saturday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the state's security preparedness for the upcoming three-month festive sprint. The comprehensive blueprint focuses on maintaining absolute law and order, sealing borders, tightening illegal arms loops, and advancing complex transnational wildlife investigations. With a series of major public festivals on the horizon—spanning **Ganesh Puja**, **Nuakhai**, **Dussehra**, and **Kali Puja**—the state is bracing for massive community participation.

o ensure peaceful celebrations, the DGP announced a collaborative strategy that Police units will work in tandem with local festival committees and volunteers to manage heavy foot traffic along with special operations and border sealing will be initiated in sensitive border zones to prevent external disruptions and Police is establishing real-time intelligence-sharing mechanisms with the police forces of neighbouring states.

Addressing the highly publicised **investigation into the illegal movement of orangutans** into Odisha, DGP Mishra termed the case "highly complex." Preliminary findings suggest the exotic animals were smuggled from outside India using multiple international transit routes. The investigation is multi-layered and will take time to conclude, but we are pursuing every lead meticulously," Mishra stated. On the anti-crime front, the DGP revealed that the police have registered **54 cases related to illegal arms seizures**. Operations are being conducted in close coordination with the Jharkhand and West Bengal Police to choking the illegal flow of firearms, which the DGP highlighted as a critical step to preemptively lowering violent crime rates across the state.

DGP Mishra concluded the briefing by addressing recent media speculation surrounding ongoing Crime Branch investigations. He explicitly clarified that **questioning individuals during a standard investigation must not be misconstrued as a formal detention or arrest**. To combat misinformation, the DGP stated that his office will issue written press notes whenever a significant breakthrough occurs, urging media outlets to strictly verify facts and refrain from publishing unverified leaks.
