# Massive Fire Guts Ganesh Puja Pandal in Odisha’s Sambalpur; No Casualties Reported

**SAMBALPUR** — A major fire completely destroyed a prominent **Ganesh Puja pandal** in the **Deheripali area of Sambalpur city** on Monday evening. The incident, which triggered widespread panic among locals, occurred at approximately **8:20 PM** at the marquee organised by the Deheripali Puja Committee, falling under the jurisdiction of the Ainthapali Police Station The fire broke out shortly after the conclusion of the main evening prayers and *darshan*. Highly inflammable decorative materials, including extensive cloth and plastic structures, caused the flames to spread rapidly across the marquee. Alert committee members and local residents initially attempted to contain the blaze. Fire tenders were rushed to the scene immediately after being notified, successfully bringing the raging flames under control within an hour.

Fire Officer confirmed that **no injuries or fatalities** were reported, as most devotees had already left the venue. While the entire decorative structure and puja materials were reduced to ashes, reports indicate the main deity idol miraculously remained unharmed

The police have launched a formal inquiry into the exact cause of the accident. The investigation will also evaluate whether the venue complied with standard fire safety protocols and possessed adequate firefighting equipment.
