# Odisha CM Mohan Majhi Launches ₹960 Crore Projects, Inaugurates Doppler Radar in Sambalpur

Sambalpur- **Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi** undertook a day-long visit to **Sambalpur** on Wednesday, launching **50 developmental projects worth approximately ₹960 crore** and inaugurating a state-of-the-art **Doppler Weather Radar Station** to dramatically enhance regional disaster management capabilities. The radar station, inaugurated at the Gangadhar Meher University auditorium, marks a significant milestone as **India’s 51st Doppler Radar** and the **third in Odisha**.

CM Majhi laid the foundation stones and inaugurated 50 infrastructure projects aimed at transforming the socio-economic landscape of Sambalpur district.

The high-profile event was attended by:

- **Suresh Pujari**, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister

- **Manmohan Samal**, Rajya Sabha MP

- **Jayanarayan Mishra**, Sambalpur MLA

- Senior officials from the **India Meteorological Department (IMD)**

- **Dr. Rajendra Singh**, Union Minister of State for Earth Sciences (who joined virtually)

The newly installed Doppler Weather Radar is set to become a game-changer for the interior districts of western Odisha, including **Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Balangir**.

Key capabilities of the new radar station include:

- **Early Warnings:** Providing real-time, advance data on fast-evolving weather systems like low-pressure areas, depressions, and cyclonic disturbances.

- **Water Management:** Tracking atmospheric conditions over the critical **Hirakud Reservoir** to aid local authorities in flood monitoring and precision water management.

- **Interstate Impact:** Beyond Odisha, the facility's extensive range will bolster weather monitoring for adjoining areas in **Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and northern Andhra Pradesh**.

This infrastructure addition is expected to significantly minimize the impact of natural disasters by giving administrative bodies the real-time data needed to deploy rapid-response measures.
