# Odisha CM Mohan Majhi Suspends Two Senior Officials After 48 Hours in Judicial Custody

**BHUBANESWAR:** Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has officially approved the suspension of two senior government officials following their arrest and subsequent detention in jail for more than 48 hours.

The suspended officials have been identified as Arun Kumar Biswal, Additional Secretary of the Commerce and Transport Department, and Sujit Kumar Raul, the Senior Superintendent of Cuttack Circle Jail. According to government regulations, any public servant who remains in judicial custody for over 48 hours is automatically subject to suspension.

**Additional Secretary Arrested on Grave Charges**

Arun Kumar Biswal was arrested by the Kharavela Nagar police following a serious criminal complaint lodged against him by a female colleague. The complainant accused the senior bureaucrat of rape, abduction, and murder.

Following the initial complaint, local police officially recorded the woman's statement and placed Biswal under arrest. He was subsequently taken to Capital Hospital for a mandatory medical examination before being remanded to judicial custody.

**Jail Superintendent Suspended Over Convict Escape**

In a separate development, Sujit Kumar Raul, Senior Superintendent of Cuttack Circle Jail, was arrested in connection with the recent escape of two convicts from custody. Following his arrest, Raul was sent to the Choudwar Circle Jail.

Because both Biswal and Raul remained in jail for more than the 48-hour threshold, the state government enforced standard civil service regulations to place them under immediate suspension pending further investigation.
