# Odisha Weather Update: Deep Depression Weakens into Depression; Heavy Rain Fury Continues

**BHUBANESWAR** — The intense **deep depression** that battered parts of the region with heavy downpours has officially **weakened into a depression** over south interior Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh. According to the latest bulletin from the [India Meteorological Department (IMD)](https://www.google.com/goto?url=CAESUgHrOzAVGgreseFBN-B53B93AaBmS0xe0en-vO7enPOPBTmV44I1CYT3R0HDBfMU8x4iZwLj78M-yjM8trM6LRcZIMAfpydGowM9agtOGHL2ibo), the system is moving north-northwestwards at a speed of 15 kmph and is expected to **weaken further** into a well-marked low-pressure area over the next 12 to 24 hours. As of Friday morning, the system lay centered close to Nuapada in Odisha, roughly 90 km west-northwest of Titlagarh.

**Current Status:** Downgraded from a deep depression to a depression, with a projected transition into a low-pressure area.
**Impacted Areas:** Southern and interior districts including Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur remain under close watch due to swelling rivers and localized waterlogging.
**Precautionary Measures:** The Odisha state government has already evacuated more than 8,000 people from low-lying, flood-prone, and landslide-vulnerable zones to safer shelters. Emergency relief operations are actively underway.

**Current Position**Near Nuapada (Odisha), roughly 120 km southeast of Raipur (Chhattisgarh).

**Movement Speed**15 kmph north-northwestwards.**Next 12 Hours**Expected to maintain depression intensity before further dissipation

.**Advisory**High-intensity rain warnings persist for several districts; residents are advised to avoid waterlogged areas.

Though the wind speeds are gradually decreasing, the [IMD Odisha Centre](https://www.google.com/goto?url=CAESigEB6zswFUsXyRaXlsZ3zHY6qKHJ8nQjmxcar_5ZNjzJ6c4xtOXCEO507b6HE5pLmKQVCU_Wsybx1rh5BPQg-LUcVVtyqYJFbfoACtbAmFomT41H58XCBvNZj34Bw9z6FdbdzUIwYSz8gtsPvZpGnWPiipGTaducpkHhG8YQ0PqsPQS4dLmnOiv1Bqs) maintains a heavy rainfall warning for the next 24 hours, alerting citizens against lightning and minor flash floods in vulnerable terrains.
