# RECRUITMENT SCAM: ED Crackdown on SI Paper Leak; 10 Premises Raided in Odisha, Bengal

**BHUBANESWAR:** In a major crackdown on institutional corruption, the **Enforcement Directorate (ED)** on Friday launched simultaneous search operations at **10 locations across Odisha and West Bengal**. The multi-city raids are part of an intensifying money-laundering investigation into the high-profile **Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment examination paper leak case**. The early-morning operations, spearheaded by the ED's Bhubaneswar zone in close coordination with state police and central security forces, targeted the residences and offices of key suspects, alleged middlemen, and technological firms linked to the examination infrastructure.

Prominent among the properties raided were those connected to individuals already named in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chargesheet. According to highly placed official sources, the searches focused on

- **Muna Mohanty:** The suspected central middleman currently lodged in jail, whose property in Kalapathar was thoroughly searched.

- **Silicon Techlab Private Limited:** The premises and offices of Managing Director Suresh Nayak.

- **Panchsoft Technology Private Limited:** Properties linked to director Shankar Prusty.

The federal agency is closely examining the roles of these examination-conducting agencies and their directors to determine how the security of the test papers was compromised. The roots of the financial probe stem from a dramatic operation executed by the Odisha Police on September 30 last year. Acting on specific intelligence, police forces intercepted three commercial buses near Ichhapuram, a strategic town on the **Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border**. Inside, authorities found 114 candidates being covertly transported to a secure location to memorize the leaked question papers just days before the scheduled October exam.

Investigation updates revealed that a sophisticated syndicate had lured candidates, demanding illicit cash payments ranging between **₹15 lakh and ₹30 lakh per candidate**. In a sinister twist, the racketeers had also confiscated the candidates' original academic certificates as collateral to ensure final payment post-selection. Following the initial state police FIR, the gravity of the interstate nexus prompted a full transfer of the case to the CBI, which subsequently filed a massive chargesheet naming 122 individuals.

The sudden leaks led to the abrupt cancellation of the SI recruitment drive last year, sparking widespread student protests and political outrage across the state. As central investigators sift through piles of seized documents, computer hard drives, and financial ledgers at the Bhubaneswar ED headquarters, officials indicate that more arrests and property attachments under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) are highly imminent
