Jharsuguda-On August 19, 2026, the United States Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, formally called Jammu and Kashmir an “important part of India” during his first diplomatic visit to the region. Speaking to reporters after meeting Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar, Ambassador Gor stated: “J&K is an important part of India and it’s an incredibly beautiful place. Delhi and the state government have made incredible steps to keep this place safe. Ambassador Gor indicated that following the positive changes and security progress in the region, the United States will reconsider and evaluate its current adverse travel advisories for American citizens visiting the territory.
Indian political leaders widely welcomed the remarks. Members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition figure Shashi Tharoor hailed the statement as a major success for Indian diplomacy and a reflection of ground realities. Local trade groups like the Indian Chamber of Commerce noted it as a massive confidence booster for international tourism.
