Four Dead, Several Missing as Cyclone Arnab Triggers Deadly Landslides in Odisha
BHUBANESWAR: At least four people have been confirmed dead and several others remain missing after heavy rains from Cyclone Arnab triggered catastrophic landslides across Odisha’s Kandhamal and Gajapati districts, officials said.
Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Rajesh Prabhakar Patil confirmed the casualties, stating that rescue operations are underway to locate the missing residents.
“Four deaths have been confirmed so far,” SRC Patil said. “In one tragic incident, three members of a single family lost their lives due to a massive landslide. Meanwhile, in the Gajapati district, a person with a mental disability was tragically swept away by the strong water currents.”
Local administration and disaster response teams have been deployed to the affected zones to clear debris and accelerate search-and-rescue efforts. Further updates are awaited as teams navigate the severely hit terrains.
